GivingTuesday: Join us in this global celebration of generosity!

#GivingTuesday is an international movement to celebrate generosity by giving back to our communities. This year it will take place on Nov. 28, 2017. On that day, people and organizations from around the world will come together to celebrate generosity by making a donation to their favorite charities.

#GivingTuesday was started in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street YMCA in partnership with the United Nations as an effort to create a national day of giving during the holiday season; this day gives us all a reason to show the world that for which we are most grateful.

Whether it’s contributing money or time to a local charity, giving someone a gift or shoveling our neighbor’s snow, every little thing we do adds up and makes our communities a better place to live.

Your gift matters
HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center is participating in the effort again this year. Our not-for-profit hospital treats all people, regardless of their ability to pay. A charitable donation to this hospital makes up for the shortfalls of Medicaid and Medicare payments, and provides care for many patients who have no insurance or are underinsured.

Monetary donations also help us go above and beyond in treating our patients, their families and other visitors who come through our hospital doors. Here are some examples of what donations of any size can do:

  • $20 could purchase a Bible for one of our patient rooms or buy a cafeteria meal for a patient and their children while in our care.
  • $50 could provide life-saving medication to a patient who has to choose between food or medicine.
  • $75 could provide lodging to a low-income family who traveled from hours away to visit a patient in our care.
  • $500 could provide a life-saving cancer screening for low-income women who are unable to pay.

There is no donation too big or too small – and all gifts are valued for the difference they make in the life of another. Click here to donate.
